14 – 27 July 2016
During our investigatory trip to Finland we visited Art Ii Biennaali and Kalle Hamm’s & Dzamil Kammanger’s studio in Helsinki.
The trip to Ii involved meeting the current Biennalle director (Merja Brinon) and discussing the future involvement of international artists in the Biennale. The discussions and the research carried out on Sami culture resulted in refinement of plans for the next Biennale (AIB, 2018). We also met current resident artists in Ii and initiated deliberation to foster potential future international projects involving Finish artists.
The extensive talks with Kalle Hamm and Dzamil Kammanger resulted in a long-term collaboration which commenced in January 2017 via a live event during the Kochi Muziris Biennale in India.
In order to deepen our understanding of the contemporary art scene in Finland, we visited various art institutions in Turku and Asikkala.
