Tandem EU – Turkey

Istanbul, Turkey
1 May 2013 - 6 Sept 2014

A Turkey - EU exchange program. Tandem Eu - Turkey aims at establishing long-term partnerships between cultural organisations from Turkey and the EU countries. The political landscape across the EU, Turkey and the neighbouring regions has substantially changed since Tandem Turkey started in 2011. In times of harshening working circumstances for cultural actors in Turkey and a vanishing EU integration perspective, building robust long-term collaboration channels between Turkey and the EU has become ever more essential.

As a part of this programme we collaborated with:

Merja Briñón
Artist Association of Lapland,
Rovaniemi, Finland

Talat Alkan
Sivas, Turkey

The program resulted in "Non-Static Depiction" - a project that focused on traditions and contemporary art relationship through the local folk arts and in Sivas, Lapland/Finland, and Poland. Finnish painter Juhani Tuominen and Polish artist Alicja Dobrucka did research on traditional arts and craftsmen in Sivas for 2 months, starting from January 2014. As a result of the researches, Juhani Tuominen created paintings inspired by the interiors of the tombs. Alicja Dobrucka examined Sivas's traditional knife making, silver works, gilding, baglama instrument (an instrument with three double strings) making, and similar arts and she created multidisciplined art works as a result of her collaboration with craftsmen.
