Living Logic screening presented four approaches and encounters with nature. A new work by  Aleks Borys  and  Sabina Sallis, made during their Labverde - Arts Immersion Program in the Amazon in the Amazon, Brazil last year was screened alongside videos by Maren Gedenk and  Janneke van der Putten, forming a programme I compiled together with  Evelin Pál  for the Veinti4/Siete Galería.

Presented works:

Aleksandra Borys, 'Embodied by Land' 2017
The film was made during LABVERDE art+nature+science Residency – Arts Immersion Program in the Amazon/Brazil. It represents the sensation of rainforest and how it affects the human body. Borys’s work explores the physical sensations of the rainforest and the borders of their body connected with the environment. The artist works in choreography, videos, installation, astronomy, cosmology and ecology, exploring relations of the human body, Earth and Universe on a scientific as well as cultural level.

Sabina Sallis, ‘Thought World and the Society of Nature I, II, III’, 2017

Meditations upon the complexity of the Amazonian landscape, its thoughts and its ‘living logic’, these video collages were made during at Labverde, Brazil. Sallis is a researching, collaborating and exhibiting artist as well as a curator using drawing, video, performance, sculpture and speculative narrative in a multimedia, transdisciplinary approach that interweaves fact and fiction.

Maren Gedenk, 'Nature 2.0’
The documentary takes the connection between humans and nature as a point of departure. However, based on artist interpretation, the undisturbed character of our natural surroundings belong to the past. In the dawn of the Anthropocene epoch, where the vast offerings of the environment are subjected to the individual needs of humans, there is no room to ponder the sublime aspects of the living world. In the human-influenced era, nature has to be adjusted to mankind’s will by artificial means – perfectly organized structures, grids, labels and price tags govern our perception of the organic. It is but a sterilized, infinite product sweeping through the production line. Gedenk’s work is a stark reminder that not only the produce, but the days of nature might also be numbered if humanity is not in tune with its natural essence and the environment.

Janneke van der Putten, ‘Directed to the Sun: the Sun Clock of Chanquillo’
This work records an intervention in Catequilla, an ancient pre-hispanic astronomical observatory in Ecuador which is aligned to the equator. Putten is a visual artist and vocalist whose practice involves experiences of listening, performances, sound and video, documentations in image/text/textile, workshops, music projects, and creating platforms for cultural exchange.
